The Hon. Justice Katrina Frances Banks-Smith

Justice Banks-Smith was appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court of Western Australia on 8 July 2016. Justice Banks-Smith graduated from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours) in 1988. She attended Cambridge University in 1992 – 1993, graduating with a Master of Laws (First Class).

She was admitted to practice in Tasmania in 1990, and after joining Parker and Parker in Perth, Western Australia, in 1990, was admitted to practice in this state in 1991. She became a Partner at Parker and Parker in 1996, and at Freehills (upon its merger with Parker and Parker) in 1997.

Justice Banks-Smith was head of the Perth Litigation Group for the firm from 2007 – 2009. She joined the Independent Bar in July 2009 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2013.
