Before Starting or Defending an Action
Litigation in the Supreme Court is often:
- Time-consuming - it may take many months or years to conclude and during that period will take up much of your time.
- Expensive - even though you may not be paying for your own lawyer, an action, once started, may take on a life of its own and be difficult to end without costs having to be paid.
- Stressful - many litigants find that proceedings will come to dominate their lives and harm their relationships with those close to them.
Before starting or defending an action in the Court you might want to consider if there is another way to resolve your dispute. If there is no other way then there are steps you can take to prepare for your action.
The Court has prepared a factsheet for you to read before starting or defending an action.
